WHAT IS THE DOWNLIGHTER?
The Downlighter is complete emergency luminaire in the form of a
‘light bulb’ and is available in a range of cap formats i.e. ES BC etc.
It is designed to be a back up lighting unit that will retrofit into
most lamp fittings such as ceiling Downlighters, to
provide instant
emergency lighting without the need for any further wiring, supplies
or equipment.
Just replace an ordinary lamp with a Downlighter and you instantly
have a virtually maintenance free back up lighting unit.
The Downlighter utilises the latest LED semiconductor technology.
The life of these very efficient light sources is well over 100,000 hours.
If left on permanently they will last in excess of 12 years.
Unlike incandescent lamps LED’s do not have filaments and
are therefore impervious to vibration, which can be the main cause
of early failure of filament lamps.
The Downlighter is designed to operate on a wide voltage range.
Therefore it can be used, without modification anywhere in the world.
It is also capable of working as a maintained or non-maintained unit i.e. it
can either be ‘on’ permanently or only light up in the event of mains failure.
The Downlighter is a sealed unit and in the emergency mode will
continue supplying light even when submerged in water, unlike most
traditional fluorescent lamp units’, which would fail at the merest hint of
moisture on the circuitry.
WHERE TO USE THE DOWNLIGHTER?
Downlighters can be used in numerous applications.
They can be included at the concept stage of emergency
lighting systems, allowing for more flexibility in design,
or added later to upgrade older installations cost effectively.
Centrally backed up systems can be vulnerable if the supply was to
be interrupted e.g. by fire close to the source. This could render an
entire emergency lighting system useless. Because each Downlighter
is an independent unit the possibility of mass failure is extremely remote,
also with each unit being independent there is the use of being
able to take it out of the light fitting and use it as a torch!
Some typical applications:
Transportation - Shipping, Trains, Aircraft.
Public buildings - Hotels, Restaurants, Cinemas, Schools
Lifts (elevators)
Domestic residences - e.g. illumination fuse boxes and other
strategic areas
To illuminate signage - The Downlighter can be used either externally
or as a back light box sign thereby converting it into an emergency unit.
